Special Exhibition “Taizo Kuroda” Creative Island Nakanoshima Exchange Planning Dialogue “Talking about Taizo Kuroda’s white porcelain” Part 1

As a program related to "Taizo Kuroda" in Special Exhibition, we held a dialogue with Mr. Masahiro Yasuki, Senior Researcher, The National Museum of Art, Osaka, and the director of the museum, "Talk about Taizo Kuroda's white porcelain."

We will publish this in two videos.
(If you select Japanese in the settings, you can display subtitles.)

In the first half, we will start with the frank impressions of the exhibition by Mr. Yasugi, who specializes in contemporary art, and will develop dialogues on the boundaries between contemporary ceramics and art and exhibition methods.

It was not until 1992 that Taizo Kuroda (1946-2021) began to present works of white porcelain under the condition of "potter's wheel molding, depression, monochrome". We invite Mr. Masahiro Yasuki of The National Museum of Art, Osaka to talk about Kuroda's work, which is trying to express contemporary expressions using a different approach from practical use, while taking the form of Utsuwa.

In 2003, Masahiro Yasuki was in charge of the exhibition "The New Century of Art Cra Work on Earth" held in The National Museum of Art, Osaka, where he explores the possibilities of soil as a material in contemporary art and the expression of soil. In 2018, the exhibition "New Wave Contemporary Art 80's" was planned to look back on Japanese art in the 80's, so to speak, Kuroda has extensive insight into the trends of contemporary art up to white porcelain. Through a dialogue between Mr. Yasuki and the director of the museum, I would like to think about how to capture Kuroda's works, not just the context of ceramics.
