Date and time: Wednesday, February 10, 2021 18:00 to 19:30
Recording Location: The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, OSAKA
Speaker: Zenta Nishida (BrUTUS Editor-in-Chief), Hitoshi Kobayashi (Deputy Director, The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, OSAKA), Shigeki Hattori (Representative Director, graf)
This is the first collaboration between Shigeki Hattori, a creative director, designer, university professor and representative of graf, and The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, OSAKA. Mr. Hattori's coordination led by Mr. Zenta Nishida, a longtime friend and editor-in-chief of BRUTUS magazine, to discuss the appeal and potential of the museum's global collection and the future of Nakanoshima.

At first, Mr. Nishida, who had never been to the museum, visited the museum and planned a three-way talk while watching the work, but thanks to the extension of declaration of a state of emergency, Mr. Nishida from Tokyo took the stage online.

The first part was a talk while watching videos taken in advance, focusing on the state of gallery space and the works of Mr. Hattori's selection. The story of "Black Glazed Tang" was exciting as a favorite of the two people (Thanks to this, some people came to see the black glazed Tang at a later date).

I was able to share that the pottery that embodies and conveys the value of that era, such as the color of celadon and the goodness of mass, has the pleasure of imagining the lives of the creators and the people at that time. And Mr. Nishida's frank impression that he would like to see the real thing should gain the sympathy of more people now in the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Part 2, there were plenty of exciting topics in thinking about future museums, such as proposals from the perspective of the two people. In particular, I strongly agree with the point that it is important to "read" the value of the work and to increase the number of people who can "read" it. We hope that this program and the creative island Nakanoshima project will lead to a new "reading change".
