Rika Noguchi (Photographer)
Photographer Rika Noguchi is known for his photographs with a unique sense of distance from the subject, and his gaze is sometimes referred to as the "gentile eyes". Until now, I have photographed the night city of Berlin, the sea of Okinawa, the Tanegashima Island Space Center, etc., and have presented works that make real things and phenomena feel like a world of different dimensions. Noguchi visited Nakanoshima, Osaka, and from the summer of 2018 to the spring of 2019, he traveled by foot, bicycle, boat, small airplane, etc., and captured the view from various angles with the camera.
“You don’t start unless you meet first. Meeting is whether your heart moves. From there the work will stand up. So, first of all, I walk and look for something that moves my mind, that’s my research.”
We look back on how Noguchi walked through Nakanoshima, such as the evening business district, park, and the tip of the island.
