Talk with Special Exhibition to introduce Finnish pottery at The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, OSAKA
Finnish pottery has sprouted at the end of the 19th century under the influence of the British Arts and Crafts movement. The development of artists at Athenium (Central School of Fine Arts and Crafts) and the free creative environment in the art department of the Arabian Ceramics Factory created unique expressions, and was highly valued at the Milan Triennale in the 1940s and 1950s. The development of Finnish ceramic art cannot be considered in isolation from the background of independence from Russia in 1917 and the social situation of the same period, including World War II.
After Tomomi Miyakawa of The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, OSAKA introduced the trends in Finnish pottery in the 20th century, Yuko Ishino, who has been studying the nationalism movement between World War I and World War II in the country, discussed the relationship between Finnish social conditions and artistic expression from a historical perspective.
