From March 27, 2024 (Wednesday), the “Isaac Julien” will be held at Espass Louis Vuitton Osaka. – "TEN THOUSAND WAVES" exhibition will be held. The exhibition will showcase Ten Thousand Waves, a magnificent video installation using nine screens produced in 2010, held under the "Hors-les-mur" program, which introduces the collections of Fondasilon Louis Vuitton.
In commemoration of the exhibition, Spass Louis Vuitton Osaka and Creative Island Nakanoshima will host a special artist talk event by Isaac Julian, who will come to Japan for the opening of the exhibition. Hiroki Ogasawara of Kobe University, who has been interacting with Julian for many years and has also been involved in discussing Julian's works. This exhibition explores Julian's works, including works exhibited at Espass Louis Vuitton Osaka.

Isaac Julien (ISAAC JULIEN):
Sir Isaac Julian was born in London in 1960 with parents who moved to U.K. from St. Turcia in the West Ind Islands. Graduated from St Martin's School of Fine Arts in 1984 and received a bachelor's degree in art and video. I work while traveling between London and Santa Cruz, California, USA.
In response to the social instability of U.K. under the Margaret-Satcher regime in the 1980s, the Sancofa Film and Video Collaborative was established in 1983 with Mar Tina Atir, Maureen Blackwood, Nadine Marsh Edwards, Robert Cruz, and others. In 1991, he established his own video production company Normal Films. In the same year, the feature film "Young Seoul Levels" was awarded at the Cannes International Film Festival Critics Week. Among them, he was nominated for the Turner Award in 2001 and won the Judge's Award at the Kunst Film Biennale in Cologne, Germany in 2003. In 2017 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire Commander (CBE), and in 2022 he was awarded the title of Night.
Julian's works include the Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum (New York), the Institute of Contemporary Art (Boston), Tate Britten (London), the Pompidou Center (Paris), the Guggenheim Bilbao (Spain), the House Dea Kunst (Munich) and numerous film shows.

Hiroki Ogasawara (Ogasawara):
1968 Professor, Graduate School of International Culture, Kobe University. PhD in Sociology at London University Goldsmith. Majored in sociology/Cultural Studies. He is studying the relationship between popular culture and racism. He has authored many books, such as "Talking the truth and in its intricate complexity: Thinking of Stuart Hall" (Shinsensha, 2019). Julian and the United Kingdom "Black Art", "Isaac Julien's recent triple works to visualize invisible capital" (Kenichi Kondo and "Annual Report Cultural Studies Vol. 3, 2016) and "Black Art" research so far and from now on: Possibilities and Challenges in Japan" (2) with Hiroko Hagihara.
