Special Exhibition
The Great Masterpieces of Western Painting: Monet, Renoir, Picasso - Collection from the Kuboso Museum of Arts, Izumi

The Kuboso Memorial Museum of Arts, Izumi (Osaka Prefecture, Izumi City) is a municipal museum specializing in East Asian classical art, including Japanese and Chinese paintings, calligraphy, and crafts. Kuboso Co., Ltd., the namesake of the museum, was a major cotton industry company that flourished for about 100 years from the Meiji era and became one of the leading enterprises in the Senshu region (southern Osaka Prefecture).

The third-generation head of the company, Sotaro Kubo III (1926-1984), donated approximately 500 pieces of East Asian classical art, as well as the museum building, grounds, and an endowment to Izumi City as a gesture of gratitude and commitment to the local culture, leading to the museum's opening in October 1982. Since then, the collection has expanded through further donations from Kuboso and individuals, and it now comprises approximately 12,000 items.

For the first time, this exhibition will showcase 23 Western paintings from the museum's collection, including works by Monet, Renoir, and Picasso, outside the museum.
