The "Lotus Sutra," which contains the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, preaches that all beings can become Buddhas and that they can become Buddhas who never perish. It is one of the most widely revered sutras in Japan. The museum's collection includes a "Lotus Sutra Scroll," a precious work that dates back to the mid-Kamakura period. It depicts the twenty-eight chapters of the "Lotus Sutra" in ink and light colors, beautifully illustrating the stories of prayer. To commemorate the completion of the restoration of this piece in March 2023, the museum will introduce artworks that depict the contents of the "Lotus Sutra" and highlight the history of the "One Chapter of the Lotus Sutra."
