A black drawing that pierces nerves and a screen covered with dull colors that drift between reality and unreality. After World War II, Bernard Buffet established a style of painting that could be said to have visualized the sense of obstruction and anxiety in the turbulent era, and just before the age of 20, he became a favorite child of the world's art world. In Japan, in the era of security struggles and student movements since the 1960s intensified, its vain image was enthusiastically accepted, and many people have seen buffet works that were displayed in the streets and in the corner of coffee shops. After that, Buffet continued to carry on its own concrete expression without following the new trends in art that pushed toward abstract expression. However, it was criticized by the public as a popular, commercialist, and gradually moved away from the art world. In this exhibition, we will re-examine the buffet works that have never been talked about in the history of art, and explore the truth (real) in his gaze, which is in the momentum of reevaluation as a master lined up with Picasso. From the works of the world's only Bernard Buffet Museum (Nagaizumi-cho, Shizuoka Prefecture), he selected and introduced about 60 items, including oil paintings, prints, materials, etc., focusing on the forms of insects and still life he drew.
