The "Now of Art Museums" is a series of dialogues on the current situation that shakes the foundation of the museum, "seeing and experiencing raw works" caused by the spread of COVID-19 infection. The 13th invites Emiko Yamanashi, the director of the Chiba City Museum of Art.
The Chiba City Museum of Art opened in 1995 as a complex with Chuo-ku government office in the city area. The collection has been collected and transmitted with the main pillars of "Japanese paintings and prints from the early modern era", "contemporary art since 1945", and "works related to Boso centered on Chiba City". In 2020, the 25th anniversary of the museum's opening, all buildings on the 11th floor above two basement floors were reopened as museums. After adding new permanent gallery space and workshop rooms, Emiko Yamanashi was appointed as the new director in 2021. Aiming to become an art museum that "citizens think they are their property", they have restarted.
In the talk, Mr. Yamanashi will introduce the efforts and actual situation of the museum, which was reopened during the COVID-19 pandemic, and future exhibitions, and will hold a dialogue on the "now" of the pandemic and the future of the museum.
