Opened in July 2020 with the theme of "Knowledge Forest" where children meet and interact with the charms of high-quality and diverse arts and culture centered on the fun of books and literature. Various cultural events utilizing books using new methods as cultural facilities instead of libraries. Designed by Tadao Ando.
Overall
The inside of the building is a "book forest" where all the walls of the floor are bookshelf. Like trees in the forest full of vitality, books on the whole wall look at children no matter where they are. The book is divided into 12 themes and was written by book director Yoshitaka Haba (BACH).
Large staircase
In the hall where you can start reading books anywhere you like, the large staircase like the roots of a large tree is crowded with many people, and it is a popular spot where reading stories and events are held. The slightly deep space behind the stairs is a space that even small children can enjoy.
Rest room
A cylindrical space surrounded by silence. There, video works that will be the entrance to interest in books are screened. What is projected on the wall is fragments of stories cut from several books. It has been devised to bring children to the world of stories.
SHOP
At the shop, we offer original goods and POPUP for a limited time. Among them, "Aoringo Ame", which was created in connection with the "blue apple" object by Tadao Ando, is a very popular original goods in collaboration with Pine Corporation, which manufactures Pineapple Candy.
